The Cycle of Abuse

Last night was a harrowing night of tears and misery. Not from me but from a Filipina neighbor friend of mine. She sought refuge in my home when her hubby tried to strangle her. She has been a victim of abuse before and the violence is escalating.

I tried my best to counsel her and warn her about going back to her korean husband. I called our church and our pastor came over late last night to whisk her away to a safe house somewhere out of town. Her husband already told her that she is not welcome to come back at all.

My friend is 50 and after a decade of marriage to this bastard, she is cast away like these old pair of boots.

Hopefully your friend grows strong enough to see that it is her damaged husband and unhealthy marriage that has been cast away like an old pair of boots--not she.

I keep her in my prayers that she sees and values herself as a person who deserves respect, and as sad as it is to end a relationship in which one has invested so much--the tragedy would have been to continue to stay in an abusive relationship.

Funny how jumping around the internet you find pieces of people's lives here and there. I read this post after reading a bit of your blog and it made me sad. Everywhere on the globe the same stories play out and are just as tragic. I hope your friend understands that she shouldn't be the object of violence no matter what. I also hope she builds a better life.
