Frolicking at to Buan Masil Festival

So my spawn and I were invited to take part of a free tour to the tiny town of Buan in the East Coast. It's somewhere down south in Korea, in the same vicinity as Busan but on the other side of the edge of the peninsula. We were joined by my good friend Amanda who caught up at the tour bus in Suwon rest stop (when the bus passed by the highway).
Rocking a puff pastry sausage twist in front of this cool strawberry sculpture in a middle of a pool. How cool are the pitstops in Korea?

Me and my bff Amanda, Melanie (another expat who actually lives in Buan and is now a good friend, too)
After several hours of travel and a few pit stops for a wee-wee break and sustenance replenishment, we finally arrived in Buan. And there's a festival rocking the town - the Buan Masil Fest. According to the town's website, this is what it is all about: "Buan Obok Masil Festival is held in the area of Sodo-eup, Buan in May. The festival offers various experiences, foods such as jjukkumi (ocellated octopus), gap ojingeo (squid), and odi (mulberry), as well as nearby tourism attraction such as Byeonsan Mountain, Saemangeum, Julpo Ecological Park and other things to see showcasing culture and traditions."

And our group, which had about a dozen students from KDI, were roped into playing the various games at the festival:

Amanda being cute.

Us, trying to decipher what are the rules of the game.

Of course, everything is Korean, so no one from our group knew what we needed to do, Well, except for my spawn.

These guys in the snazzy costumes were tossing eggs with prizes written inside.

Everyone, do what the others, do.

Smile for the camera!

Spawn hamming it up at the conga line.
And me absolutely having the time of my life.

The object of the game is to throw your slippers in the basket. Here's spawn getting ready to throw his into his BFF Robert's basket.

Remember the eggs that were being tossed to us in that vest-attired game? Well, our group won stuffed toys, boxes of potatoes, wine, onion kimchi, etc. At the slipper throwing game, we all were given 2 kilos of special red Buan rice.
Here are more pics of the festival:

Little girls dancing to Moana's songs

How adorable are they????

Rainbow pride, yeah!

Ahhh, a doxie! Be still my heart.

Adjummas in colorful folk costumes.

This is where I won a jar of onion kimchi. It was absolutely delicious.

Our awesome tour bus. Mr. Kim, the bus driver, is the best and an absolute sweetie.

More pics about our travel to this Southern part of the country coming up soon. Toodles!
