Walking by the river.

Yesterday, a Sunday, was a beautiful spring day. The sky was bright blue, a slight breeze in the air and the sun was shining bright - a perfect day to go out walking. I asked Billy to come and walk with me by the river. So we dressed up and don our caps (while I packed a bottle of water and some snacks for us lest we get hungry and thirsty), then we set off.

This river is right beside our apartment complex. Well, maybe not really right beside it but about a block away. There were sandbars everywhere like this as the water was not that high.

Billy had his binoculars with him. There were a lot of riverbirds that congregated on the riverbanks. Blue Herons with their magnificent wingspans glided and swooped all over the plae. We saw a couple of pheasants and even teal ducks. What surprized us was that Billy even spotted a brown squirrel darting in the grasses.

I asked Billy to find some rocks to send to a friend in the US. She collects rocks from everywhere and I promised to send a couple to her. Here's what Billy found.

The name of the river is Cheongmicheon River. Like other korean names, it is quite a mouthful. During the winter, it gets frozen over when it is really cold. During the spring and summer, reeds like this abound on the riverbanks.

There's nothing more satisfying than spending a whole afternoon walking by the river with your son. We pick up rocks (Billy found one covered in quartz crystals), I told him the names of the birds and the plants and we had a great time.

Then we had to go. It was time to leave the river and find some place to eat lunch.

Thanks for walking with us. Bye!
